As different as we may be, we all know the force that keeps us dragging our tired selves into rehearsal every Saturday morning at the painful hour of 9:00. Because of Mr.C's ability to pull such passion out of each musician and to help us grow from it, and every individual's contribution of his own voice through his/her instrument, I can proudly say that my experience here has been like no other; with the YAS, the voice of my passion for music is heard, complimented and enhanced by the community of people whose desire is to do nothing but the same for themselves and the immortality of music. --Katyana Sacro, French Horn 2003 St. Mary's College, Moraga, CA I have played cello with YAS for two years. During this time, Mr. Campiglia has helped me become a better musician by introducing us to a wide variety of musical pieces, my favorite of which is Beethoven's Egmont Overture. This September I will be going to the University of Redlands. --Lauren Niwinski, Cello, 2003 Mr. C demands a lot of each of his players, but his anecdotes and his jokes, as well as his attention to detail make every player feel important and appreciated. The wide-ranging concert music he chose helped me to admire the possibilities of classical music in a way I'd only begun to consider before, and I very much look forward to continuing orchestra work at Vassar. --Andrea Berger, Viola 2003 Playing with the Young Artists Symphony has given me the opportunity to experience music at a higher level than in my high school band and orchestra, and has raised the level of my playing, and the expectations of what I hope to accomplish in music. Achievement in music affects all areas of my life, giving me self-confidence, self-discipline, friendship, and enjoyment. This fall I will be attending the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, Houston, Texas, majoring in Flute Performance. --Julia Barnett, Flute 2003 The San Diego Young Artists' Symphony Orchestra has helped me to grow musically and gain a great ensemble experience due to the high musical standards of the group. My bassoon playing has become more sensitive to different types of music under Maestro Campiglia's direction, which will aid me in becoming a better soloist and ensemble player. --Justin Paquio, Bassoon, 2003 CSU Long Beach Being under the direction of Maestro Louis Campiglia has not only made me a finer musician, it has made me a better individual as a whole. Mr. C. has the ability to teach a philosophy of life through the art of music. His commitment and dedication to music is overwhelming and truly inspiring. Being in Mr. C's orchestra gave me the opportunity to play with many fine musicians who indirectly made me a finer player, an opportunity that was not available at my local high school. I will be attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) this fall to further my education as an engineering major, and will also continue to express my passion for instrumental music. I would like to thank Mr. C., the orchestra, and of course all the parents who took the time to support the orchestra. Thank you. --Jose Naranjo, Flute, 2003
