Background NFL owners voted
to award Super Bowl XXV in Tampa during a meeting 20/5/1987. This was the second time that Tampa hosted the game, the city previously hosted Super Bowl XVIII on January 22, 1984.
Bills and Giants in the game of contrasting styles: while leading the league in total points scored (428), the Giants led the league in fewest points allowed (211).

editorial New York Giants: 1990 New York Giants season
The 1990 New York Giants coach Bill Parcells were built to the specifications of the “power football”: a strong defense and an offense that the device supports very long head. The Giants defense ranked second in the league in total yards allowed at least (4392) and first in fewest points allowed, and boasted three Pro Bowl selections: defensive tackle Erik Howard and linebacker Pepper Johnson and Lawrence Taylor. The secondary was led by defensive back Everson Walls, an offseason acquisition of the Dallas Cowboys, who recorded six interceptions. The Giants’ offense is not spectacular, just 17th in the league in yards gained and 13th in points scored. But she wore hearing opposing teams’ units with an extremely long, keeping their opponents offense “of each other and prevent them from scoring. More importantly, the Giants scored an NFL record, losing only 14 into a 16-game regular season. A big reason for the team success was the blocking of offensive lineman Bart Oates and William Roberts, the only Pro bowlers in the attack. Kick returner Dave Meggett led the NFL in run back yards (467), while also gaining 492 meters to the kickoff returns, rushing for 164 yards and catching 39 passes for 410 yards.
In New York began the regular season by winning their first 10 games, after he crashed and lost three of their next four. A week after losing the division rival Philadelphia Eagles, 3113, 101 Giants were defeated on Monday Night Football in a defensive battle with 73 101 San Francisco 49ers, who won the previous two Super Bowls, and finally ended regular season with an NFL best plate 142. Then in 1713 they lost the account, New York suffered a serious setback when starting quarterback Phil Simms went for the season with a broken leg piede.sostituzione
Simms, Jeff Hostetler, started only two games In his seven years as a backup with the Giants. However, to receive Hostetler pass and clambering for the possibility of his limited playing time during the season, and threw an interception and no fumbles committed. With Hostetler at the helm, the Giants responded by winning their last two games of the regular season, 133, good enough finish to win the NFC East and earned the second seed in the NFC playoffs.
Buffalo Bills
Main article: 1990 Buffalo Bills season
The Bills had a talented team with nine Pro Bowl selections to their roster. Their defense was led by defensive end Bruce Smith, who recorded 19 sacks and won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award. Behind him, three bills starting linebacker, had Darryl Talley, Shane Conlan and Cornelius Bennett were selected for the Pro Bowl. And on special teams Pro Bowler Steve Tasker was a serious threat forced touch, delivering sharp contrast, and blocking kicks.
But as good as their defense, it was beating the Bills, “High power a crime that most attention. Unlike the Giants, invoices regularly use the no -crawl offense to storm the field and score points quickly. Instead of a crawl after each play, it was quarterback Jim Kelly immediately sent the offense back to the line of scrimmage and call the game after reading the defense. This strategy prevented opposing defenses correctly read the Bills training, making substitutions, or even to catch his breath.
No-crawling offense Bills’ K-Gun worked well enough for Kelly to the regular season to close as the quarterback Top Rated in the NFL (101. 2), launched 2829 meters, 24 touchdowns and only nine interceptions. One reason for the success was that he had two outstanding wide receivers had Andre Reed, who are specialty has the center, the corners and crossing routes, recorded 71 receptions, 945 meters and eight touchdowns, and Future Hall of Famer Lofton James, who is the deep threat with 35 receptions for 712 yards (20. 3 meters to the average capture ). Tight end Keith McKeller 34 contributed receptions for 464 yards and five touchdowns. Pro Bowl running back Thurman Thomas was 1297 meters, 49 passes caught for 532 yards and touchdowns scored 13. Thomas has the NFL in yards from scrimmage. A key to the productive offense Bills was the blocking of his offensive line gorgeous led by All-Pro center Kent Hull and Pro Bowl guard will Wolford.
Kelly Although the last two games of the season with a knee injury sustained missed the game where the Giants lost Simms, invoices finished with a record 133 regular season.

Playoffs See also: NFL playoffs, 1990-91
The Giants began their championship postseason run by simply eliminating the Chicago Bears, 313. The guide “The football Giants’ crime of power, Hostetler threw only 17 passes, but two went for touchdowns and made no sales. He also directed an attack that rush 194 meters, including experience in 1943 (and one touchdown) from Hostetler himself. But New York lost another key player for the season when the rookie running back Rodney Hampton, the second best team rusher during the regular season with 455 meters, had a broken leg.
The following Sunday, Giants overwhelmed the San Francisco 49ers, NFC Championship Game in 1513. The 49ers, an NFL-best 142 regular season and winner of the last two Super Bowls were six point favorites at kickoff. Their defense was outstanding led by future Hall of Fame defensive back Ronnie Lott and linebacker Charles Haley, who led the NFC in sacks. San Francisco’s offense was considered the best in the NFC, led by future Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana and wide receiver Jerry Rice. However, with the exception of a 61-yard touchdown pass from Montana to wide receiver John Taylor, the Giants offense included the 49ers’ very well. A lot of defensive end Giants’ Leonard Marshall early in the fourth quarter knocked Montana out of the game. Despite their great defensive effort, the Giants pulled still 13-9 late in the fourth quarter, but a run of 30 yards by linebacker Gary grounds on a fake punt to set up field goal kicker Matt Bahr the quarter, bringing their deficit to 13 -12. The 49ers (now led by Steve Young) tried to run the clock on the ensuing possession, but San Francisco running back Roger Craig had the ball dislodged by nose tackle Eric Howard, and Lawrence Taylor recovered in the air with fumble 02 : 36 remaining. Five games later, Bahr kicked his fifth field goal, a 41-yarder as time expired to give victory in New York.
billing, Jim Kelly returned from his injury to lead Buffalo to a playoff victory at the 4434 Miami Dolphins. To jump to an early 203 lead, but Miami quarterback Dan Marino took his team and cut lead Buffalo to 30-27 entering the fourth quarter. However, Buffalo scored their first contact with the disc of the period, with a five-yard run by Thurman Thomas. Miami then lost a fumble on the next kickoff, which switches the game away with 26-yard touchdown pass to Andre Reed Kelly. Kelly finished the game with 336 meters passing, three touchdowns and 37 meters. Reed was also a big factor, recording 123 yards and a pair of touchdown catches. Lofton caught seven passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. Thomas led the ground attack with 32 carries for 117 yards and Bills running two touchdowns while also catching three going for 38 yards.
Buffalo then crushed the Los Angeles Raiders 513, the AFC Championship Game curve score most in history. The defense of the Bills’ offense dominated the Raiders, “which was without running back Bo Jackson, who suffered career damage against the Cincinnati Bengals will end the week, restricting them to a field goal and interception of the five early steps of quarterback Jay Schroeder. Meanwhile, the Bills offense “set an NFL playoff record with 41 points in the first half, giving the game away from the rest. Kelly was 17 of 23 for 300 yards passing and two touchdowns to James Lofton. Thomas had 138 meters, 61 meters, and received his backup, Kenneth Davis, tied a playoff record with three touchdowns. Super Bowl Pregame news

The bills were heavily favored to win the Super Bowl XXV. Most experts expect the Giants defense could not contain turbocharging the Bills’ no-creep that had scored 95 points in two playoff games. Many have also questioned the effectiveness of the Giants’ offense could not score on a touchdown in the NFC Championship Game. Also at week 15 of the regular season, the two teams met at Giants Stadium, where the Bills, the Giants defeated in 1713.
Because of the threat of terrorism in connection with the Gulf War, additional security measures were implemented at Tampa Stadium, including the placement of the FBI snipers on the upper floors of the stadium.
For the first time, each player wore a Super Bowl logo patch on his jersey. This is not a normal practice in the Super Bowls to Super Bowl XXXI. The Super Bowl XXV logo was painted at midfield and the NFL logo placed in each of the two lines of 35 meters. For the last matches of the Super Bowl, Super Bowl VI, the NFL logo painted on the 50-yard line.

Television Entertainment and The game was broadcast in the United States by ABC with play-by-play host Al Michaels and color commentator Frank Gifford and Dan Dierdorf. Brent Musburger hosted all the events with the help of then-ABC Sports analyst Lynn Swann and Dick Vermeil, Musburger regular commentator on school ABC football broadcasts. also sponsor Coca-Cola and Diet Pepsi has its contest promotions or advertisements by the situation in the Gulf War to withdraw. The game was broadcast in Britain on Channel 4 and on CTV Canada. Because of the situation in the Gulf War, this was the first Super Bowl will be broadcast in many countries. Outside of North America and England, was the Super Bowl broadcast for the first time in countries like Mexico (Canal de las Estrellas), Australia, Russia and many other countries.
Pregame cerimonieconsegne
Singer Whitney Houston anthem during the Super Bowl XXV, backed by the Orchestra of Florida, was later released as a process, which number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the only artist to reach the national anthem into a hit. [Edit] The single was reissued after September 11, 2001 attacks a decade later and still kept on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number six.
Former NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle joined the coin toss ceremony. halftime show

The first show was titled “A Small World Salute to 25 years the Super Bowl.” It was produced by Disney and featured more than 3,500 local children from different ethnic backgrounds and a performance by boy band New Kids on the Block with special guest Warren Moon.
ABC is not the first time send arts. Instead, a special television report on ABC News anchor Peter Jennings on the progress of the Gulf War. The halftime show was then shown on tape immediately after the game, although most branches NBC ran the first episode of Regulation Davis after the broadcast. After the game < , br />
; The Super Bowl was the inspiration for the character Ray Finkle from 1994 movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective [edit] and provided a critical point for the plot of the movie Buffalo ‘66 1998 Vincent Gallo.
In an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, Ray and Debra have their wedding video, then suddenly cuts the ribbon at the opening kickoff of the game to watch. Debra says: “You have something happen?” Ray says no, then Debra said: “But why do I see the football?” Later in the episode, Ray has a group of his friends to watch the tape of the game, and just as Scott Norwood missing his kick, cutting the tape back to the wedding, to the consternation of his friends. Ray says: “We all know what happened.” One of his friends (a priest) then said: “I am”.

, Summary of the contest for the no-huddle offense against the Bills, the Giants’ strategy was to provide a power to use that game with OJ Anderson, helped by the rollout quarterback, bootlegs and play action fakes. How tight end Bavaro Mark later recalled, “] [we met with three ends tight, fat slob picking up and moving you and let you tackle OJ, if he could.” This allowed them to take time and time limit property Buffalo. The Giants have scored a Super Bowl record for time of possession 40 minutes, 33 seconds, even 22 minutes into the second half. On defense, New York would be physically Buffalo wide outs, and playing with an extra defensive back towards the passing bills to stop the game, but admits the game runs.
The contrast was evident in the strategies during the first period. After forcing the accounts to Punt on the opening drive of the game, the Giants consumed 6:15 from the period to 58 March to 10 meters plays to score on a 28-yard field goal by Matt Bahr. In this unit, New York is running five races and five pass plays. But the Bills hit once again on their next possession with a five-play, 66 yard drive that took 1:23 of time, including a 61-yard completion tip of quarterback Jim Kelly to receiver James Lofton established 23-yard field goal as Scott Norwood tie the game at 3-3.
After forcing the Giants to Punt on their ensuing possession, the Bills offensive strategy “began working perfectly. Kelly led the Bills on a 12-play, 80-yard scoring drive that consumed 4:27 and moved the ball effectively, so the team never faced third down. Kelly of six consecutive passes (four to Andre Reed) for 62 yards and running back Thurs Smith closed with a yard touchdown run to give Buffalo October 1 -3 driving. Smith 1-yard touchdown run was his only lead of the match and claimed the last of his career. Reed’s 5 first quarter receptions were a Super Bowl record.
After trading hours punts, the Giants were pinned on their own 7-yard line. On the second down, defensive lineman Bruce Smith sacked quarterback Jeff Hostetler in the end zone for a safety, increasing the Bills ‘12-3 to lead. The game, Smith had the chance to fumble force after Hostetler held the ball only with his hand to launch. But to his credit, Hostetler held the ball away from Smith, helping to ensure that only 2 points would have surrendered.
The Bills started their next record with the field position after a superb free kick, but were forced to punt after three plays. Taking the ball at their own 13 yard line with 3:43 left in the second quarter, the Giants abandoned their strategy for the long-occupied units and a quick attack to strike their own country. Hostetler led the Giants 87 meters, scoring a 14-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Stephen Baker, with only 25 seconds left in the middle field to the shortage in New York reduced to 12-10.
Giants opened the third quarter and returned to their original strategy game run 75 meters in 14 plays to score on a one yard touchdown run by Ottis Anderson, taking command at 17-12 . The device uses a Super Bowl record nine minutes and 29 seconds (as approved by the Giants in Super Bowl XLII), and consisted of four successful third conversions. The highlight was a 14 yards to wide receiver Mark Ingram passes on 3 and 13 meters to go down. Ingram caught a short pass and broke five tackles for Buffalo to get and keep the first drive alive.
After forcing Buffalo to Point on the next possession, New York, rode on the line 35 – yards from the Bills. But the fourth and two, Smith Anderson with a loss of 2 meters face. Buffalo then took over and stormed the field, the promotion of 63 meters in just four matches and scored on a 31-yard burst by running back Thurman Thomas on the first play of the fourth quarter, regaining the lead to 19-17. the fourth quarter of Thomas’ touchdown scored 1000 points scored in Super Bowl history (1001 to The extra point).
But before the Bills defenders had a chance to catch their breath, they found themselves looking back on the field hold a long journey Giants. This has gone for 14 games and 74 meters, half of which came from proceeds from Hostetler to tight end Mark Bavaro, and another pulled the 7:32 bell. The accounts managed to stop the drive at its own 3-yard line when linebacker Cornelius Bennett broke down the third Hostetler to pass, but Bahr kicked his second field goal to give New York a 20-19 lead. <, br /> On the next possession the Bills can advance their own 41 yard line before having to punt, which Giants to take more time out of time. To finally forced New York to point and took the ball at their own 10 yard line with 2:16 remaining. Kelly, she led the field with a mix of climbs, short passes, and Thomas runs. Buffalo drove 29-yard line of the giants, the creation of Norwood for a provisional 47-yard field goal with eight seconds. But his kick sailed wide right, less than one meter outside the upright pole.
, There were many impressive performances in the game by the players of both teams. Jim Kelly finished 18 of 30 goes for 212 yards, no interceptions, while adding another 23 meters on six attempts. Jeff Hostetler completed 20 of 32 deals for 222 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 10 yards. Dave Meggett registered combined net 129 yards (48 rush, 18 receiving, 37 punt return, 26 kickoff return). But the best performance is supported by both teams race ‘. Ottis Anderson ran for 102 yards, a pass caught for seven yards, and scored a touchdown. Thurman Thomas scored a touchdown, rushed for 135 yards and five caught passes for 55 meters, making it a total of 190 meters from the line of scrimmage. Thomas ‘135 meter are the most yards for a member of a losing team. This was only the second Super Bowl with two rushers have 100 meters.
The defensive game plan for the Giants, written by Bill Belichick defensive coordinator, was inaugurated in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Giants’ triumph helped Belichick and wide coach Tom Coughlin recipients for their names, and finally the head-coaching job with the Cleveland Browns and Boston College, respectively country. Today, Belichick was head coach of New England Patriots, and Coughlin went to Boston College’s first head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and is currently the coach of the Giants. Giants coach Bill Parcells retired shortly after winning his second Super Bowl with the Giants. However, he coached three other teams since then: the New England Patriots (that led to Super Bowl XXXI) from 1993-1996, the New York Jets 1997-1999, 2003-2006, and the Dallas Cowboys. Both Coughlin and Belichick went to Super Bowl to win as head coaches: Belichick with the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVI and XXXVIII XXXIX; Coughlin with the Giants in Super Bowl XLII, ironically against the Patriots Belichick.
was the first Super Bowl, in which no Both teams committed a turnover. The only other Super Bowl-to-date without a turnover of Super Bowl XXXIV, where the St. Louis Rams defeated the Tennessee Titans 23-16.

Top star Shakira will also perform on Thursday and a performance secret just before the match on Friday. The concert will be broadcast live from the heart of Johannesburg, Soweto Township Orlando 40,000 capacity stadium at 1800 GMT.

Soccer fans around the world have already booked their tickets for Shakira’s concert at the opening of the FIFA World Cup 2010 official song singing “Waka Waka” with South Africans Freshly Ground pop group . />
Among others who came to Johannesburg Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys and John Legend rock. Top African musicians, including Angelique Kdjo from Benin, South Africa and the Parlotones Amadou and Mariam, the blind duo from Mali.

But there is an element of surprise in the world by FIFA just before the opening match between hosts South Africa and Mexico.

Lebo M, the musician born Sowe behind Broadway “Lion King” is the producer of the performance of 25 minutes at Soccer City Stadium. Nelsen Mandela chose a song “Hope” to play in the opening balance of Russ Ballard and Chris Winter.

But pick Mandela South African singer 34-year Siphiwo Ntshebe die dsuddenly meningitis last month. Lebo M is not yet clear who will replace Siphiwo, if the song Friday before 95,000 spectators. />
This kind of global event brings huge publicity, several small bands protested the non-representation of local artists for the opening. They asked people to boycott the event, and the reaction of people to their boycott is accelerated.

Stampede during the match warm-up raises serious doubts as to the preparation, crowd management and security. If something happens during the Main Event, this will be a shame for Africa and the football world in general. The hope of the South African government fully utlize this opportunity to promote its global image and avoid this guy for errors. </ P>
